In a statement, the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) said that the implementation of the New Educational Model for the three grades of pre-school, first and second grade of primary and first grade of secondary school now applies to all public and private schools of basic and normal education, incorporated into the National Educational System.

The new curriculum is organized around three components: Academic training, which consists of the subjects of national observance; Personal and Social Development, including social-emotional skills; and Curricular Autonomy, which gives school communities the opportunity to define a part of the curriculum, according to their interests and needs.

In order for the New Educational Model to succeed one million 19,090 teachers have been trained, within the framework of Mexico’s Continuing Education Strategy.

Starting today, some 25.4 million students and 1.2 million teachers will implement the plan within Mexico’s 226 thousand public and private schools that offer basic education.

The students of basic education, job training and normal education join the 9.2 million students of high school and upper secondary education who started their courses the first week of August.

Therefore, the total enrollment of the National Education System in the school year 2018-2019, will be 36.6 million students, served in 258.5 thousand schools, with the support of 2.1 million teachers.

In relation to the implementation of the New Educational Model, in order to complement the training to teachers on the new plan and study programs, periodic sessions of the School Technical Councils were held throughout the 2017-2018 cycle.

In addition, a nationwide School Supervision Workshop was held, whereby a thousand supervisors from Mexico’s 32 states were trained.
