Live and love the ancient Maya culture

Maya Ka’an is a new concept destination in the Mexican Caribbean where the magnificence of the Maya culture, its legacy and traditions are shared with its visitors through eco-touristic and interactive experiences. Visitors can learn, live and love every aspect of the Maya culture, from their rituals, to their economic activity to their gastronomic traditions.

In the state of Quintana Roo, there are a good amount of communities with deep rooted traditions. These communities are made up of real Maya descendants, many of whom are willing to share their way of life with visitors: the way they live, work and play. All of this thanks to the creation of the concept of Maya Ka’an which has the intention of fostering tourism as well as the cultural and social development of the region.

This eco-touristic project broadens options for tourists visiting the state based on the sustainable use of resources and the strengthening and preservation of the World Heritage, Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an. At the same time it is intended to promote community development by boosting sustainable production projects such as crafts, medicinal products, preserved food preparation, among others.

All of the activities and services available in the region are managed by local communities. These activities are divided into different experiences: escape, contemplate, Maya wisdom, journey to the past and towns visit. Each of them is planned for different locations which are ideal for the experience selected.

Other activities are defined by the “getaway” concept, in which one can choose from diverse adventure activities such as: kayaking in the Laguna Negra, fauna observation at sea, sport fishing in Punta Allen, birdwatching in Muyil, and so on. All of these adventures will bring you closer to nature and let you explore the magnificence of the Maya jungles. Some of the remaining activities also offer gastronomic tours, cultural encounters, and Maya rituals.
