Young Mexican inventor seeks to become the next Einstein by creating the cheapest particle accelerator of the world!

Mexico’s young and talented researchers: Cristobal Miguel Garcia wins the National Youth Award.

Cristobal Miguel Garcia Jaimes is a young Mexican student that has amazed the world of science. This talented young Mexican inventor seeks to become the next Einstein and created the cheapest particle accelerator of the world, using only $68 USD!

Cristobal Miguel, who just turned 19, says he was driven to build this accelerator, not only for the development of science and research but also supported with his great interest on motivating other indigenous youths in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero.

This talented and visionary young researcher took 8 months, 23 days and 13 hours to create this project, with the help and support of his mentor and professor. “The accelerator comprises a source of particles, an acceleration system, an optical electronic system and a target, a fluorescent screen where there's a blip of light when electrons hit it”.

Cristobal insists on contributing for a better tomorrow and a better Mexico, and is doing so with his research. Due to the current situation, the state of Guerrero –where Cristobal is from–, is going through a tough patch which has led several youngsters to resort to violence; however, Cristobal wants to show the world and demonstrate that there is another way to succeeding, and people can achieve peace through science and culture.

The pocket accelerator was introduced at the Science Fair of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and then onto the National Congress of Physics. Cristobal said that he wants to take this invention to the small communities and rural towns of Mexico to show youngsters the world of science.

Today, Cristobal Miguel Garcia is 18 years old; he is a student of the College of Sciences at The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and winner of the National Youth Award 2014. However, some years ago he was just a kid living at San Miguel Totolapan, a rural community in the state of Guerrero.

Since he was 11 years old, he was fascinated with science! He used to think that using his knowledge he could help improve the social and economic situation of his community, so he always followed his childhood dream, and would spend every hour studying.

According to a press release from the UNAM, Cristobal was a prominent student that has won more than 80 science awards. He also is the co-founder and director of the Science Without Borders Foundation, which is an organization that encourages and supports students in science studies, and also writes a science column on a national media.

Cristobal insists on seeking and finding young indigenous talent, and is convinced that the next Einstein, Beethoven or even Picasso might be living in hidden places in Mexico, such as Guerrero or neighboring state of Michoacan.
