An adventure at JaliscoBy Andrea Hablutzel Pelayo
Great activities variety in contact with nature
Thanks to Jalisco’s ecosystem diversity, there are many activities in ecotourism, adventure tourism and extreme sports that can be done around the state. From the mountains that surround them, down to their dams and rivers, to the imposing cannons, trails and elevations to their amazing beaches, there is a lot to choose from to enjoy activities that will fill you with adrenaline, excitement and connect you to nature at the same time.
Prior experience riding horses is not needed; there are a lot of places where experienced horsemen will guide you, in either large groups or for a few people or couple. You can find many paths and specific riding routes around Jalisco. You’ll enjoy the vast nature crossing the mountains, forests, near the damns and rivers as well as parks and around towns. We highly suggest the experience of crossing the mountain horseback riding while watching the sunset, it is truly unforgettable.
In the heart of the capital, Guadalajara, locals and visitors can enjoy the natural scenery of Bosque Colomos (Colomos Forest). You can ride your horse through the 90 plus hectares of forest, which is one of the city’s lungs, a large source of oxygen inside the busy city.
Jalisco is a great place to practice this sport. The intent is to discover, admire them and enjoy the adrenaline you get from interacting with the canons. It is an adventure sport that combines hiking, swimming, jumping from rock to rock, jumping in the water, sliding through water slides, climbing and rappelling. The canons may or may not have water, that’s why they are divided between the dry and the wet canons.
Some suggestions of canons to visit are: Cañón de Huaxtla, El Zarco, Cañón de la Meditación, Cañón del Tequila, Agua Fría, Salsipuedes and Cañón de la Disciplina.
The geography in Jalisco on its own allows for this to be one of most important and loved activities in adventure tourism, preferred by locals and visitors alike.
To practice this sport you can visit Tapalpa, Mazamitla, Bosque La Primavera, Nevado de Colima, Valle de Guadalupe, Tala, Tlajomulco, among others.
There are many tours organized around the state to go mountain biking, mainly for those with no prior experience, there’s also places to rent the bikes along with everything you need to guarantee your safety while riding. An ideal activity to connect with your surroundings, exercise and usually used by companies to do some team building between their employees.
The beautiful beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Costalegre and Boca de Tomatlan are the ideal scenery for this activity. There is a big demand in these destinations for diving tours, which are known for having all of the necessary security measures to enjoy this sport in the Pacific Ocean. There are several diving schools that will teach you the basics up to professional certification.
You’ll see and explore their flora and fauna, sea life and coral reefs. This amazing experience apart from connecting you to marine life will completely take you out of the routine of the city life and give you a boost of adrenaline unlike others.
Definetely Jalisco has something for those seeking fun, adrenaline and adventure... in complete harmony with nature.
