Revive colonial times, today
The state of Yucatan, in the south of Mexico, is a state that holds immense history, natural treasures, amazing cuisine and vast cultural assets. Throughout the years, Yucatán has been able to preserve some of these cultural and historical properties, such as the Haciendas.
Haciendas are large estates commonly found along the country, built by the Spanish back in the 16th century and these were an important element of the economic system.
In Yucatan, Haciendas were mainly dedicated to farming, henequen and sisal production. These became symbols of wealth and culture, and today, certain have been recovered, restored and revived; some were turned into beautiful boutique hotels, others are event venues, restaurants and so on.
Their architecture, colonial charm and style have become attractive for visitors and the following are five of the Haciendas of Yucatan worth visiting:
• Hacienda Chichén
The first Hacienda in the state that was turned into a hotel, nowadays this estate is known as an exclusive Eco-Spa Resort. It has a peaceful and romantic ambiance. At this resort one can enjoy Maya Spa treatments and relax among its beautiful gardens and luxe amenities.
